About the Centre

The Fitness and Lifestyle Centre (FLC) is a well-equipped fitness facility, which can accommodate 449 people. We have qualified staff serving the Centre's clients and we support the hiring of students from the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation and the University of Alberta.

Graduate students in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation can become involved in the research, instructional and service initiatives of the Centre.

Our facility contains a wide variety of fitness equipment, including:

  • cardiovascular equipment,
  • free weights, and
  • resistance training machines

The overall size of the fitness centre is approximately 850 square metres.

The Centre is open for use by:

  • Students
  • Faculty and staff
  • U of A alumni
  • the public

The FLC is an accredited fitness appraisal centre through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. All fitness and nutrition services are provided by qualified staff including:

  • Certified exercise physiolgists (CEP’s)
  • Certified personal trainers (CPT’s)
  • Certified strength and conditioning specialists (CSCS),  and Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA)
  • CEP and CPT apprentices
  • Registered dietitian

Fitness and Nutrition programs and consultation services

The Centre offers the following consultation services:

  • Fitness programs, including:
    • Fitness appraisals
    • Muscular strength and endurance 
    • Individualised fitness program modification
    • Exercise prescriptions - devising a program to help you achieve your fitness goals
    • Personal training - learn the right exercise techniques and stay motivated
    • Personal training packages - comprehensive, multi-session one-on-one consultations with a fitness consultant
    • Nutrition counselling and follow-up sessions

  • Activities Guide - Guides are produced three times a year and are available online at the Campus Recreation website - www.campusrec.ualberta.ca.
