Play Around the World

This academic offering is designed to provide a global education and cross-cultural experience to University of Alberta students in the area of physical activity and play. Multi-disciplinary teams of senior level under-graduate and graduate students form learning communities to work with agencies in Thailand and Cambodia that care for under-served populations. It costs $5500 to fund each student for this three-month engagement. While students engage in fund-raising activities themselves, we raise funds to assist their efforts.

Athletics Undergraduate Awards

These awards are made to student-athletes with satisfactory academic standing entering, transferring, or continuing undergraduate or graduate degree programs who are members of a Golden Bears or Pandas athletic team. Recipients are selected on demonstrated excellence shown in their chosen sports, the potential to develop as significant contributors to the Golden Bears or Pandas programs; contributions made to their sports on and off the field, demonstrated leadership potential on and off the field, and academic standing. Consideration may be given to demonstrated financial need.

Physical Education and Recreation Alumni Association Award

This award is made to a student with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 who is entering or enrolled in their second, third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. The recipient is selected on the basis of commitment to community and leadership in his or her field of study as demonstrated through volunteer or work involvement related to the student’s academic pursuits.

25th Anniversary of the Practicum Program Legacy Award

2009 was the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation’s Practicum program. In recognition of the many contributions by our students and cooperating agencies the Faculty created a legacy fund to assist students involved in the practicum program. Students must be registered full-time in the practicum program at a faculty-approved placement, either domestically or internationally.  Student(s) must be able to demonstrate financial need and commitment to their field of practice while maintaining a satisfactory grade point average.

The Dean’s Good Works Fund

These funds are awarded, at the Dean's discretion, to support and enhance students’ educational and campus life experience while enrolled in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation. This fund has supported activities such as Rookie Camp, where many of our first year students have the opportunity to learn about campus life and become involved to enhance their overall learning experience at the University of Alberta.  In addition, financial support is provided to students who are able to demonstrate financial need to continue their studies.
